A Bigger Jerry's Race to Fight Multiple Childhood Diseases

After many years of raising substantial funds to fight muscular dystrophy in Wisconsin, the Francois and Palmer families of rural Dane county are substantially broadening their scope by supporting multiple health charities which raise money to find cures and make life better for children. This unique concept of an umbrella health fund-raiser is the first of its magnitude in Wisconsin and perhaps in the nation. Our ten children's charities are as follows:
- Muscular Dystrophy Association of Wisconsin
- MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer)
- Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Wisconsin
- Epilepsy Foundation of Southern Wisconsin
- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
- Autism Society of Wisconsin
- Arthritis Foundation & Camp MASH
- Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired
- UW Health American Family Children's Hospital
- Ronald McDonald House of Madison
With the 6th annual Jerry’s Race scheduled Saturday, Aug. 16, at Verona’s beautiful Festival Park, there are a number of exciting additions that will make the day eventful and entertaining for southern Wisconsin’s runners, walkers, and folks just enjoying the all-day Fabulous Fun Festival in the park.
Registration only $10!
Once again, our early registration fee has been reduced for all of our 2008 race events! Our objective is to substantially increase the number of participants in all events. With many more total participants, MORE total funds will be raised for medical research, patient care, and to send children with illnesses to summer camp. Your support is important and appreciated.
The 3rd annual Wisconsin Gold Cup Championships for 5k/10k men and women runners will kick off activities at 9 a.m. and the Famous Klement's Racing Sausages 2-mile Family Fun Walk for adults and children will start at 10 a.m. The Gold Cup event will be chip-timed so that runners can run their best times of the year to help raise record amounts of M.D. funds.
Jerry’s Race will again present impressive 22-inch traveling trophies to Gold Cup winners in the four divisions, two men and two women. The trophies will be presented to winners live on the Jerry Lewis Telethon on Labor Day on WKOW-TV.
We'll also be featuring the Wisconsin Hometown Teams Challenge with teams of local runners, men and women, competing on their local community team similar to the what the Home Talent League does in baseball. This cross-country team event will be chip-timed with the first five finishers on each team determining the trophy winners. The teams can be all men or all women or mixed, with a trophy also awarded for the best all-women’s team.
